Ingredients

  • The Cocktail Mix
  • 1 oz Neutral Vodka: Use a smooth 80-proof vodka (such as Smirnoff, Tito's, or Belvedere) as your base spirit.
  • 1 oz Fruit Schnapps: Use DeKuyper Watermelon Pucker or Sour Apple Pucker for the authentic hard candy flavor.
  • 2 oz Cranberry Juice: Use 100% tart cranberry juice to balance the sweetness or traditional cranberry juice cocktail for a sweeter finish.
  • 1 cup Ice Cubes: Standard solid freezer ice for shaking and chilling.
  • Optional Garnish
  • 1 tbsp Simple Syrup or Honey: To moisten the shot glass rims.
  • 2 crushed Jolly Rancher Candies: Crushed into fine dust using a rolling pin to coat the rims.

Equipment

  • 1 Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker: Essential for rapidly chilling the liquid and achieving the proper dilution.
  • 1 Jigger (Measuring Tool): Requires 1 oz and 2 oz measurement lines for exact ingredient ratios.
  • 1 Hawthorne Cocktail Strainer: To hold back ice shards and ensure a smooth, clean pour.
  • 2 Glass Shot Glasses (2 oz capacity): Place in the freezer 20 minutes before prep for frosted, ice-cold glassware.
  • 1 Shallow Plate (Optional): Needed only if you plan to create crushed candy sugar rims.

Method

  1. Prep and Chill Your Glassware
  2. Place two standard 2-ounce shot glasses into the freezer for at least 15 to 20 minutes before mixing. If you are garnishing the rims, dip the edges of the chilled glasses into simple syrup, roll them in finely crushed hard candy dust, and set them aside.
  3. Measure and Combine Ingredients
  4. Fill your stainless steel cocktail shaker halfway with fresh, solid ice cubes. Using your jigger, pour exactly 1 ounce of neutral vodka, 1 ounce of flavored fruit schnapps, and 2 ounces of cranberry juice directly over the ice.
  5. Shake Vigorously for Chilling and Dilution
  6. Secure the lid onto the cocktail shaker tightly. Hold the shaker with both hands and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds. You will know it is ready when the outside of the metal shaker tin becomes painfully cold and covered in a thick layer of frost.
  7. Strain and Serve Immediately
  8. Remove the small top cap of your shaker and attach your Hawthorne strainer. Pour the bright, chilled liquid evenly between your two prepared shot glasses, leaving the melting ice behind in the tin. Serve immediately while cold for a smooth, sweet-tart candy finish!

Notes

The 1:1:2 Golden Ratio: You can easily scale this recipe up for large party pitchers or cocktail dispensers by maintaining the ratio of 1 part vodka, 1 part fruit schnapps, and 2 parts cranberry juice.
Prevent Watery Shots: Never let the mixed ingredients sit on the ice inside the shaker for more than 30 seconds before serving, as the ice will continue to melt and dilute the vibrant candy flavor.
Flavor Customization: For a blue raspberry version, swap the schnapps for Blue Curaçao and use a splash of sour mix instead of cranberry juice.
